Hello and welcome to a special episode of Eurogamer’s Newscast, prompted by today’s industry-shaking news that Microsoft will buy Activision Blizzard for nearly $70bn. Joining me for this episode are editor-in-chief Martin Robinson and reviews editor Chris Tapsell. Together, we quickly try and digest today’s headlines and discuss what this all might mean for Activision Blizzard staff, their widely-disliked CEO, as well as fans who happen to enjoy Call of Duty, Crash and the company’s many other games....

In the wake of World of Warcraft: Classic’s massive success, EverQuest, another MMORPG that had a large following in the 2000s, will be getting its own “classic” server called Project 1999: Green. Just like WoW: Classic, EverQuest’s classic server aims to take the game back to its original form before any updates or expansions were added. By doing this, the creators hope to not only provide long-time fans with a nostalgia trip but also to reintroduce the basic mechanics that made it so popular in the first place....

Quantic Dream’s PS2 thriller Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy is coming to PS4 next month, the developer has announced. While the studio initially stated that the re-release will be a “1080p remaster”, it later clarified that the game is actually part of the PS2 Classics range, suggesting it’ll receive the same treatment as previous PS2 games launching on the service. It won’t be the remastered version released on PC and iOS last year either, Quantic Dream adds....

Update: Update 1.5, featuring Survival Mode, is now rolling out on PS4 and Xbox One, Bethesda has announced. Fallout 76 has brought its inventory update onto the game’s main servers, following last month’s testing phase. The headline change here is that stash weight has been increased all the way to 1,200 pounds. That’s a 50% increase on the previous limit, giving players way more options for carrying items. Elsewhere, the inventory update alters the color scheme for those who suffer from color blindness, and adds new UI options....

All players of Fallout 4 or Forza 6 on Xbox One are to receive a free download code for Fallout’s Chryslus Rocket ’69, with codes being sent beginning today and over the next week. Players who purchase Forza Motorsport 6 and/or Fallout 4 between April 14 and the end of the month will receive their codes beginning in early May. Codes will be sent via Xbox Live messages. Not only is the car pretty nippy, but you’ll also get a custom Forzavista experience that details its history and lets players check out its features....

Free-to-play hit Fallout Shelter will launch as a Play Anywhere title on Xbox One and Windows 10 tomorrow, Bethesda has announced. “Fallout Shelter thrusts players into the role of Overseer to build their own Vault, manage dwellers, and adventure through Fallout’s iconic wasteland,” explains Bethesda. The new platform editions are fully up to date, including post-launch features such as Crafting, Scrapping, Pets, additional rooms, iconic Fallout 4 characters, and special Dweller customization options....

If you have been playing Call of Duty for a while then you would have seen the gradual increase in wacky operators, skins and more in the Call of Duty franchise. This iteration of the game has already seen professional football players Messi, Neymar Jr. and Paul Pogba added to the game. Now we have the “Thick Cuts” bundle available on the store, and it has not been well received by the fanbase....

Last week Twitch updated its policy for its TwichCon San Diego event, making masks a requirement while indoors as well as proof of vaccination or a negative covid test. Many potential attendees were put off by the lack of safety measures, but following the policy update others are now refusing to attend due to the mask requirement. FaZe Clan is organising its own event in San Diego at the same time, and its co-owner Nickmercs has stated masks won’t be required....

Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe has announced it will release a bunch of new PlayStation 4 hardware bundles to coincide with the launch of FIFA 19 next month. First up is the Champions Edition bundle, which includes a 1TB PS4 Slim, a copy of FIFA 19 Champions Edition, DualShock 4 pad, plus a redeemable voucher that offers some extra goodies, including UEFA Champions League Player Pick and Cristiano Ronaldo/Neymar Jr. seven-match loan period....

As we approach the new FIFA 23, we are now incredibly close to the first special cards in the game. FIFA 23, doesn’t release fully until the 30th of September, however because of the Web App releasing on the 21st of September TOTW 1 will release then too. When does TOTW 1 release? TOTW 1 will be released on the 21st of September at 6:00pm BST. EA Sports always releases its new FIFA content at this time and FIFA 23 should be no different....

Not all Final Fantasy characters are created equal, and that’s certainly true of the earlier games. While vast advances in both graphics and voice acting have us at the edge of our seat with the newer games, the lack of all that was equally terrifying for us as kids. For some reason, reading a sinister line from an antagonist and watching them through those gritty, 90s graphics gave us more nightmares than any modern horror....

There is still nearly half a year to go before Final Fantasy 7 Remake brings back one the greatest role-playing titles in history. Until then, Square Enix has been sprinkling various details and gameplay videos to satisfy those anxiously awaiting its release. The company recently dropped a new clip from the title that shows off one of Tifa’s Limit Breaks. Through the official Final Fantasy 7 Remake Twitter, Square Enix shows Tifa giving a vicious-looking bug a swift kick to the mandible....

We’re not at the end of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker yet, but we’re getting there — the Aitiascope promises yet more revelations if you can get through it, and that’s what this guide is here for. Focus Home Interactive has announced that it is rebranding and going forward the publisher will be known as Focus Entertainment. The publisher is behind such games as Hood: Outlaws and Legends, Greedfall and A Plague Tale: Innocence. In it’s announcement post, it said “From now on, the Focus Entertainment brand covers all of Focus’ activities, with the term Entertainment being representative of the desire to diversify its games, products, services and revenue streams....

It’s hard not to be intrigued by the idea of a cowboy battling it out with fantastical creatures in the Wild West. At The Game Awards on Thursday, that’s exactly what fans were teased with by the co-creators of the Dishonored and Prey franchises, Raphael Colantonio and Julien Roby. Weird West is the first title to be developed by their new indie studio, WolfEye, and will be published by Devolver Digital of Hotline Miami fame....

Reviews of the first five episodes of season eleven under Chris Chibnall have found plenty to praise, with one major reservation: where, just where, are the villains? In episode one, The Woman Who Fell To Earth, we had a tooth-ridden blue giant with just one hobby: human hunting. In Ghost Monument, it was hard to tell whether the antagonist was the ego-driven contest runner or the weapon-development that occurred on the planet in its distant past....

NFTs seem to be the flavor of the month when it comes to PR landmines in the gaming industry. Fans get one whiff of any kind of possibly positive sentiment towards NFTs or the crypto space, and it lowkey becomes a PR mess for anyone involved. Case in point, the official German Valorant Twitter account recently came under fire as they posted an image of Killjoy, the Genius of Germany, admiring the computer-generated art of Martin Houra at the museum....
