Fans of narrative-driven role-playing games might want to pay attention to Archetype Entertainment, a new video game-focused division of Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast that was officially revealed today. Following the acquisition of 21 Century Fox by Disney, the decision has been made to sell off FoxNext, a video game developer founded by Fox in 2017 that works on such mobile games as Aliens, Avatar Pandora Rising, and Marvel Strike Force. The most successful and profitable of their games is the Marvel title, which launched in March of 2018. The move should come as no surprise to those who have followed the various purchases by Disney as it becomes a massive entity....

Doom Eternal will not have microtransactions, according to id Software creative director Hugo Martin. Questions regarding Doom Eternal’s monetization have been increasing given publisher Bethesda’s inclination for adding microtransactions and the game’s confirmed multiplayer mode. It appears that expanding into microtransactions will be held off for the Doom sequel, at least for the time being. Doom Eternal will launch a complete product. Martin elaborates on the reasons why id Software won’t be implementing microtransactions, stating directly that, “Eternal is a $60 game....

In Downhill, an American nuclear family is vacationing on the Austrian side of the Alps. Anime company Funimation has recently come under fire on social media after an inappropriate recording session was leaked online. The recording includes Dragon Ball Z voice actors using homophobic slurs and making jokes about rape and pedophilia while in character. Recently, Funimation cut ties with voice actor Vig Mignogna following accusations of sexual misconduct. Funimation put out a statement condemning Mignogna over his behavior, and recast him in the Morose Monokean II dub....

Nintendo has revealed the release date for a few new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Amiibo, including everyone’s favorite Animal Crossing character. Isabelle, along with Pokémon Trainer and Pichu, will be releasing on July 26th. Aside from these three characters, fans are still waiting for a number of new character Amiibo. Snake and Simon Belmont were announced in February, but they still do not have a specific release date. With the arrival of Joker, players are anticipating the inevitable Joker Amiibo as well....

E3 2020 is uncertain because its host city, Los Angeles, has declared a state of emergency over the novel coronavirus outbreak (via Nintendo Life). The decision was made after a Californian man died from the disease that he contracted while on the Grand Princess cruise ship. 50 cases have now been confirmed in 12 counties across California, and officials are attempting to get in contact with the “hundreds” of other Californians who were on that same ship....

The ESA has announced today that E3 will return in the second week of June 2023, and will partner with PAX organizer, ReedPop, to produce the show. The news comes following three years of an in-person version of E3 having not taken place. Instead, in past years, developers and publishers have ran their own livestreams to showcase announcements of upcoming games, and industry veteran Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest has also helped fill the early June void left by the tradeshow....
