Today, the organizers of The Game Awards took to Twitter to announce that we can expect news about Final Fantasy XVI. Producer Naoki Yoshida himself (whom you may also know as producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV) will be on stage to deliver a special live presentation. Final Fantasy XIV and Monster Hunter World’s crossover event will advance to the next stage on August 7, when the rampaging Rathalos from Capcom’s beast-slaying series will rock up in Squeenix’s online behemoth. Today, during Electronic Arts’ quarterly financial conference call for analysts and investors, chief executive officer Andrew Wilson discussed the performance of Battlefield 2042. Wilson admitted that the game did not meet expectations. He then mentioned that it’s an ambitious game and the development team pushed innovation across many dimensions like scale, new modes, dynamic gameplay, and more. Yet, developing the game with the teams working from home proved challenging. EA believed it was ready to be put in players’ hands, and while it launched with “strong stability,” as more players experienced the game “unanticipated performance issues” that needed to be addressed cropped up....

We’ve seen video game adaptations of movies. We’re finally getting a video game inspired by musical theatre. What we don’t see are video games based on literature. God of War is the closest example that comes to mind, and that’s still Sony Santa Monica’s take on mythology.
