Composers Andrew Hulshult and David Levy are the new composers in charge of music on Doom Eternal’s upcoming The Ancient Gods DLC as revealed by a tweet from Hulshult yesterday. In the tweet spotted by US Gamer, Hulshult said he was “unbelievably happy” to be working on the game’s soundtrack with Levy, and had previously worked on the music in the games Quake Champions and 2013’s Rise of the Triad. Doom Eternal’s The Ancient Gods DLC will be the first of two DLC packs planned for Doom Eternal, and sees the Doom Slayer return to Urdak to face a new threat that seeks to destory the cosmos after the events of the main game....

The director of the Dragon Quest Builders series has announced that he is leaving Square Enix after feeling “burned out” by the production of Dragon Quest Builders 2. Kazuya Niinou has worked on numerous video games since 2003, including Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak, Etrian Odyssey, Trauma Center: Under the Knife, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, 7th Dragon, and Last Ranker. Niinou is best-known for his work with some of Square Enix’s biggest properties, as he was an assistant director on Final Fantasy XIV and has directed both of the Dragon Quest Builders games....

Square Enix has dropped a new Dragon Quest Builders 2 trailer ahead of the game’s launch next week, focused mainly on the improved co-op features of the sequel. The trailer, posted below, shows how now you can have up to three friends join you for collaborative 4-player building in the game either locally or online, with customisation options, the new ability to build underwater and more. You won’t have needed to play the first game either, as it’s said this is an entirely standalone experience....

EA has confirmed the purchase of mobile games publisher Chillingo for an undisclosed price, although the deal does not include the publisher’s biggest hit Angry Birds. The acquisition is rumoured to be worth in the region of $20 million in cash and will see the mobile publisher maintain its independence. “EA remains committed to preserving Chillingo’s independence and letting them continue to manage and cultivate their great network of relationships with independent developers,” said EA in a statement....

Electronic Arts big cheese Blake Jorgensen said during the publishing behemoth’s investor call (via GI.biz) overnight that it’s thinking about making a free to play battle royale game. Jorgensen made the revelation when he was asked if EA would consider releasing Battlefield V’s battle royale mode separately as a free to play title. While this probably won’t be happening, it did prompt the executive to let slip the publisher is thinking about its own stab at the genre....
