There’s been a little more light shed on EA’s recent announcement that it’s considering changing the name of its long running FIFA series. The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson was a director at Epic Games, and he has said that when he was there he tried to cancel Fortnite. In an interview with Game Informer (thanks Eurogamer), Fergusson said, ‘If I stayed at Epic, I would have cancelled Fortnite. Before I left, I tried to cancel Fortnite. The saga of Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is at an end, as Square Enix has revealed that the game will soon receive its final update and will no longer be supported. Dissidia Final Fantasy and NT are three vs three fighting games set in the Final Fantasy multiverse, where groups battled each other using iconic characters from the series. Dissidia had a huge roster of characters from the Final Fantasy series and a number of alternate costumes & weapons in order to pour on as much fanservice as possible....

The annual DOTA 2 esports extravaganza, The International, will be heading to Vancouver this year and the top DOTA 2 teams will once again battle to be the ultimate team. Last year Team Liquid took the $10.8 million prize money and trophy with a 3-0 victory over Newbee. Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, a brand new entry in the company’s long running RPG series. As revealed during a special Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary livestream, game designer Yuji Horii said (thanks to Gematsu for the translation) that the new title will take the series in a darker, more mature direction and players will be forced to make tough choices. Also promised is a revamp of the series’ traditional command battle system, although it’s promised that veterans should still be able to enjoy the new system too....

With LittleBigPlanet and its sequel, Media Molecule gave gamers the tools to create their own side-scrolling adventures, but the community ended up doing a lot more with the creation suite than anyone could have anticipated. Sony has announced that it will be closing servers for DriveClub in late March 2020, nearly five years after the Evolution Studios-developed racer launched for PlayStation 4. In addition to closing the game’s servers, all of DriveClub’s content will be delisted from the PlayStation Network in August of this year. It should be noted you can still play DriveClub offline after the servers close up shop, as the single-player offering is still pretty meaty, which is just as well....

Earlier today, developer Shiro Games and publisher Funcom released a bevy of new screenshots for its upcoming real-time strategy game, Dune: Spice Wars. Scheduled to arrive on PC later this year, Dune: Spice Wars is based on Frank Herbert’s influential eponymous sci-fi novel. Of course, said novel was later adapted to cinema by David Lynch in 1984 and Denis Villeneuve in 2021. Specifically, Dune: Spice Wars is all set to be a spiritual successor to Westwood Studios’ 1992 hit, Dune II – which is widely considered to be the original title to help popularise the RTS genre as we see it, to this day....
