For pretty much as long as I’ve been writing about games, I’ve wanted to write a massive critique of Final Fantasy VIII. It’s probably the single most divisive game in the series, and with some of the weirdest mechanics since Final Fantasy II (the NES one, not the American release of Final Fantasy IV). And, hell, one of the strangest and most surreal plots of the series too. It was the first Final Fantasy for many; for some, it’s certainly their favorite....

Square Enix has announced during it’s E3 show case that Final Fantasy XIV, the online Final Fantasy game, is getting a crossover with Monster Hunter World in Summer 2018. Monster Hunter World launched in January this year, and was hugely successful for Square. Final Fantasy XIV is no stranger to crossovers, meanwhile, having previously had crossovers with Final Fantasy XV, Dragon Quest and more. We’re not entirely sure what form the crossover will take yet, but we definitely saw a Palico and what looked like a Rathalos....

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has undergone a lot of unexpected changes over the last week or so, but the first official patch has now arrived. It doesn’t make any more changes to the progression system, but it fixes a bunch of annoying bugs – including one that caused Rey’s lightsaber to disappear. Patch 0.2 also slightly alters the spawn points on Tatooine and fixes some collision and clipping issues, both in the single player campaign and in the multiplayer....

Former Ghostwire Tokyo creative director and concept artist on Bayonetta Ikumi Nakamura has revealed that she has started a new indie studio in her native Japan that will be working on a new, as yet unnamed IP. As spotted by PlayDiaries, the announcement came in the latest episode of mini-documentary called Cutscenes from YouTube documentarians Archipel, in which Nakamura reveals that she started up the new studio after a brief period travelling the world following her departure from Tango Gameworks in 2019....

It seemed like the Dishonored series was probably done following the last installment Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, which ended with, well, the death (or at least disempowering) of the Outsider, the central figure of the series. Well, while fans might not get any more video games, the world of Dishonored is returning in the form of a tabletop roleplaying game, set to be released this summer. This tabletop adaptation of Arkane Studios and Bethesda Softwork’s Dishonored franchise is being developed by Modiphius, the company behind adaptations of Bethesda’s other popular series The Elder Scrolls and Fallout....

Disney is believed to be planning for a Han Solo spin-off trilogy of movies, having put pen to paper on a three picture deal for actor Alden Ehrenreich, insiders have told New York Daily News’ [email protected] The first Han Solo film is scheduled for May 2018 and will feature the early adventures of a young Han. LEGO movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are helming the feature. “There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential,” reveals the insider....

Final Fantasy VIII’s Rinoa Heartilly is now available to snap up in Square Enix scrapper Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. A long-range combatant, Rinoa wields various projectile attacks such as the Pinwheel, which is one of her signature weapons from Final Fantasy VIII, along with the Valkyrie and Rising Sun. She also comes packing a bunch of outfits, including the Forest Owl and Party Dress, which fans should easily recognise from Square Enix’s much-loved 1999 RPG....

One Piece Film Red is quite a bit darker than you might think based off of its promotional art. Between its villain slaughtering an entire island of people and the evil plot it enacts revolving around being trapped in a dead diva’s dream, there’s more than a few elements that puts it well past being one of the darkest One Piece movies ever made. We liked our time playing the early access release of Don’t Die, Minerva! The twin-stick shooter with a love of stuffed animal protectors was an enjoyably spooky romp. She had tried for so long to get back to her kids and while she’s got a ton of love for them it’s not as if she learned any parenting skills up on the moon....

Bosses in Dungeons & Dragons are usually hard to miss when they are encountered. Often they are huge dragons, beholders, or some other dangerous-looking creature. Some boss creatures buck this trend and have an appearance that belies the danger they pose to a group of adventurers. These are the types of bosses players should fear the most. Dynasty Warriors 9’s trial version will be rolled out on PlayStation 4 in Europe on November 14, Koei Tecmo has announced. Xbox One gamers will be able to take the open-world hack-’n-slash title for a spin on November 21, while the PC trial is available now. The taster gives you access to up to three characters from the massive 90-strong roster, as well as a glimpse of Dynasty Warrior 9’s story mode....

After Human Head Studios announced that Prey 2 would be abandoning many of the appealing and unique elements featured in its predecessor, many fans’ interest in the sequel waned. Since then, however, a new CG trailer for the game released that promised that, despite any real through line between the titles, this would be a game worth checking out.
