Espire 1: VR Operative is an attempt by developer Digital Lode to recreate the experience of a stealth action game in virtual reality. Throughout a series of covert missions, you’ll be able to peak around corners, distract guards with noise, sneak attack them, read their heat signatures for positional awareness, and even shout, “FREEZE!” at them through your microphone. While Espire 1 does deliver an environment where emergent and quintessentially stealth-game happenings can occur, the inconsistent controls, buggy enemies, and drab visuals prevent Espire 1 from living up to the examples set by Solid Snake and Sam Fisher....

This week on the Eurogamer Newscast we’re discussing video game leaks, following last weekend’s devastating hack of Rockstar Games which saw almost an hour of in-development Grand Theft Auto 6 footage spilled onto the internet and promptly dissected by the masses. The sheer fact Rockstar had been hacked in this manner was itself shocking - but the damage felt worse due to the negative comments this work-in-progress content then received. Microsoft made a raft of announcements today ahead of its Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday. Fallout 76 developer Bethesda Game Studios has outlined an extensive roadmap for the troubled online MMORPG, beginning with next month’s Wild Appalachia. Running March 12 – May 23, Wild Appalachia will drop off a host of free content for Fallout 76, including new quests and features, an additional game mode, and an extra seasonal event. That’s only the start too, as summer will kick off yet another major update with Nuclear Winter, again adding yet more free content....

Things around Five Nights at Freddy‘s: Security Breach got a bit murky after the series creator retired amid controversy, but the game now has a release date. It was known that the title was expected before the end of the year and, well, that was accurate, but it was cut kind of close, as it’s showing up in mid December. At least fans will be able to experience a true 3D game in the series before the year is out....

Klei Entertainment has slapped a December 2018 release window on Don’t Starve: Hamlet, the latest expansion for its hugely popular survival hit. This is slightly later than expected, although the studio noted that it’s ’not quite where we want to be’ with the expansion, hence the delay.
