Developer Techland has today revealed the performance of its anticipated sequel Dying Light 2 on what it has dubbed ‘old-gen’ hardware. The video sequence highlights the game running on the PS4 and Xbox One family of consoles at 30fps. As you’ll see, the game runs fairly smoothly despite the obvious performance setbacks of not being capable of running at 60fps. There is a fair amount of motion blur that helps to smooth things out and make it appear more cinematic, though its presence won’t be appreciated by those who dislike the effect’s impact on overall screen clarity....
EA has committed itself to sticking with Battlefield - and the beleagured Battlefield 2042 in particular - albeit with a new development process rethought “from the ground up”. Speaking to investors last night, EA boss Andrew Wilson said the publisher was taking “the long view” when it came to the franchise, and that it would remain a big part of EA for the forseeable future. Wilson praised former Respawn boss Vince Zampella in his new expanded role in which he also oversees some Battlefield development, and also promised EA would continue to “grow” Battlefield 2042 - after righting its ship first....
The Earth Defense Force series has always been a niche one. It was so niche that the first two games didn’t even get released in the US, which prompted the developers to make a full-budget game to try and make more headway. After being disappointed with sales, an American company was given the reins to make an entry that would appeal to westerners. The response wasn’t kind, so another developer is trying again....
Earthfall, the upcoming cooperative-flavoured alien blaster from developer Holospark, will launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One this summer. There’s not an awful lot to explain about Earthfall. The Pacific Northwest is under attack from alien invaders, and it’s down to you and a bunch of teammates to put a stop to the threat by mowing them down with heavy weapons backed up by squad tactics. Earthfall packs in ten missions spread across two campaigns, where you’ll fortify holdouts while completing mission objectives and laying waste to hordes of drones and hulking, intergalactic nasties....
Bandai Namco and FromSoftware announced that a new update with new features is coming to the highly praised Souls-like JRPG Elden Ring. The update will be free, and it will be released tomorrow, Dec. 7, 2022. As the name may suggest, it will include a PvP arena that will enable duels and battles among players. Evil West is here to bring vampires to their knees, but not your rig, most likely, as the game has a strong PC version. Much like Shadow Warrior 3, the game runs on Unreal Engine 4 and is quite gorgeous. Despite that, it’s also very well optimized. While playing, I had a fairly constant 120 fps, dipping only when there were a lot of enemies onscreen. But I’m honestly impressed with how well the game runs....
Last night, Red Dead Online fans came together to mourn the “death” of Rockstar’s online service via a community-run “funeral” in-game. Tributes to the online component of Red Dead Redemption 2 poured in all over social media. Players collectively dressed in black and gathered around the game’s numerous graveyards. Ubisoft has announced during its second quarter earnings call last night that it was delaying upcoming games Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine into the next fiscal year beginning April 2021, and an in-development game based on the Avatar franchise into 2022. The company cited the ongoing global pandemic and difficulties related to remote working as a result as the reason for the delay, saying (as per Video Games Chronicle) the extra time would allow them “to leverage their full potential in the context of production challenges caused by Covid-19”....
Koei Tecmo is continuing their dive into re-releasing games from defunct series. The Fatal Frame games were always awesome, but we didn’t even get the fourth game or remake of the second one here at all. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water first released on the Wii U back in 2014 in Japan. Territories outside of Japan got the game a little over a year later. As the Wii U only sold about 13 million consoles, the game didn’t sell well....

The team on the original Fable trilogy experienced “really bad” crunch under Lionhead Studios’ management, and a former assistant producer said he was “disappointed” with what happened there. In an interview with Elite Game Developers, co-founder and CEO of Hutch, Shaun Rutland, discussed his motivations for starting his own studio. “I got into Lionhead Studios as an assistant producer. Bandai Namco has announced that it’ll be delaying the closed beta sign-ups for Dragon Ball FighterZ, on PS4 and XboxOne, from its original date on July 26 to August 22. In a statement Bandai Namco said, ‘Due to the volume of excitement and enthusiasm surrounding this announcement, we’ve decided to expand the capacity of the closed beta in an effort to enable more players to participate in the program’.
