Free trials are coming back to Final Fantasy 14. Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida made the announcement in his most recent Letter from the Producer Livestream broadcast (thanks, NME) earlier today, confirming the free trial will be available from 22nd February next week. Free trials were pulled at the end of last year, after a massive increase in its player base resulted in long queues ahead of the release of the new expansion Endwalker....

Final Fantasy 16 now has a release date: 22nd June 2023. The news was announced at The Game Awards by producer Naoki Yoshida, along with a brand new Revenge trailer that gives fresh details on the game. There’s more combat, the colossal Eikons, and a glimpse of party members that includes Torgal the pet dog! Today Square Enix announced that a celebration livestream to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Final Fantasy VII will air next week. To be precise, the broadcast will debut on Friday, June 17th at 3:00 pm PDT, 6:00 pm EDT, 11:00 pm BST, and midnight CEST, depending on where you live. It’ll air on Twitch and YouTube and it’ll last only ten minutes. Yet, the message mentions to “please be excited.” Veteran Final Fantasy fans will likely recognize the wording....

Doom Eternal, as we already know, won’t have a traditional deathmatch multiplayer mode. But interestingly enough Id Software thinks its replacement Battle Mode – pitting a player against two player controlled demons – will wind up as engaging as the single player campaign. Creative Director Hugo Martin was chatting with Video Games Chronicle about the new mode, admitting the flaws with Doom 2016’s multiplayer; ‘This time around we really wanted it to feel like Doom....

Blood-splattering shooter DOOM has received a new update adding 4K resolution support for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. The patch is available to download now and has been a long time coming, as DOOM was marketed as an Xbox One X enhanced title at E3 last year. PS4 Pro support is a nice surprise however, as this wasn’t previously confirmed as being in the pipeline. Bethesda hasn’t gone into much detail on the update, merely commenting that it’s a ‘4K resolution patch,’ so it’s not known if the game maintains its silky-smooth 60fps as seen in the standard version of DOOM....

Epic Games and Tonic Games Group, parent company of Mediatonic, are joining forces. The two studios announced today that Epic has purchased Mediatonic, a.k.a. the developer behind the ever-popular Fall Guys. The partnership is huge for these major companies — so big that Mediatonic’s announcement temporarily crashed its website. However, Mediatonic assured that Fall Guys will remain the same chaotic fun it’s always been. In a blog post on Epic’s website, Tonic Games CEO Dave Bailey explained that the companies share the same goals....

Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 2 took players by surprise by kicking off with no building in core battle royale modes. Fable Legends has been delayed to 2016, Microsoft has confirmed. The additional time will give developer Lionhead more time to “add features and polish that will make a real difference” and help the team “achieve [its] aspirations”. The game’s open beta will now launch in spring 2016, although a release date for the final version has yet to be confirmed. “Fable Legends is coming together well and it’s a lot of fun,” Lionhead said in an update on the game’s website....
