EA has hired Bryan Beede—formerly the general manager for the Call of Duty series—to lead the Battlefield franchise at EA. As it announced the news, EA stated that the appointment “signals a strategic, long-term commitment to the growth of the franchise.” (As per IGN.) Beede, having worked on not only Call of Duty but Destiny as well, has strong experience in launching live-service games. (Warzone has been a resounding success, to say nothing of Call of Duty Mobile—which is my usual approach....

It’s been almost a year since Apex Legends was first released, and all things considered, the game has seen a fairly solid 12 months. EA still has big plans for the future though, recently doubling down on promises to bring Apex to both mobile platforms as well as Chinese markets. EA first made the announcement that Apex would be coming to mobile back in May of 2019, but the company has been quiet about the port ever since....

EA expects to sell-in 13 million units of Star Wars Battlefront by the end of March 2016, 3-4 million more than it had previously forecast. The increased sales expectations comes off the back of this month’s multiplayer beta, which EA says was “exceptionally well received by players”, and the ongoing excitement for this December’s blockbuster. “On preorders, I think when you look back, and you’ve heard from both Blake [Jorgensen, CFO] and Andrew [Wilson, CEO] how powerful this beta was for us, and that certainly spurred tremendous pre-order growth,” COO Peter Moore commented during EA’s Q2 earnings call last night (transcribed by Seeking Alpha)....

Elden Ring features a plethora of different types of weapons to unlock or grind for. Given the recent Colosseum update, several players are looking for Colossal weapons, swords, and other heavy weapons. One of these includes the Lance which is a Great Spear that can cause massive ranged damage. Bandai Namco, publisher of Dark Souls, Elden Ring and Soulcalibur, has reportedly been targeted by a ransomware attack. Word of the hack was surfaced by malware tracker vx-underground, which spotted a claim by notorious ransomware group ALPHV, otherwise known as BlackCat. A post by the group suggested it was poised to release data acquired from Bandai Namco’s servers “soon” (thanks, Kotaku). There’s no detail yet on what data the group may have obtained, and Bandai Namco is yet to acknowledge the hack....

Team Rocket has invaded Pokémon Go and has corrupted some of the Pokémon in the game, turning them into shadow Pokémon. The game recently released eleven new shadow Pokémon for players to catch and purify. Team Rocket started by invading and taking over Pokéstops, stealing the items from them (never mind that the items from Pokéstops are free). They defended the Pokéstops with their brainwashed shadow Pokémon. Players could battle them to free the Pokéstops, then catch one of the shadow Pokémon and purify it....

Fall Guys, the immensely popular online battle royale party game, looks to be getting a new addition in the form of a giant fast-moving hammer known as Big Yeetus, according to the game’s official Twitter account. “Leaked” in a post made yesterday, the hammer will appear “randomly in levels to shake things up.” The account also made it clear that sometimes it will help the beans in their quest to reach the finish line, or it may hinder them by, well, yeeting them a fair distance when it strikes....

Fallout 4 Patch 1.02 is out and brings with it a fix to the infinite caps glitch which gave players the ability to build up large quantities of caps (currency) by exploiting a buy, sell, dupe, sell technique. There’s also a much needed performance boost, lifting the sluggish frame rate considerably in Corvega Assembly Plant – an area which saw performance drop to around 20fps. However, there are online reports of the shadows in the area being removed to facilitate the framerate boost....

Last week, with the lead up to the release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Square Enix decided to host a nation-wide contest in the U.K. Square tasked fans with hunting down the Golden Dagger, using clues the company provided via a live stream. This hunt included puzzles which viewers had to solve in order to determine the location of the dagger. The stream also showed off exclusive gameplay. Additionally, it gave viewers a chance to win prizes in the lead-up to the September 14 release date....

Yesterday Square Enix officially announced the forthcoming release of Tactics Ogre: Reborn, a remaster of the PSP remake of SNES game Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. However, some fans are unhappy with both graphical changes and the cost of the remake. EA has provided details of the surprisingly-extensive FIFA 16 demo set to launch on September 8th. The demo will arrive on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Today Nintendo released a brand new trailer of the upcoming Fire Emblem game Fire Emblem Engage. This time around, it’s all about beautiful-looking cutscenes providing a good glimpse on the story and a look at the characters. Not only we get to meet plenty of new heroes, but also those from the past, like Marth, Celica, and more. This appears to be one of the main bullet points of the game, in which the hero can summon heroes from past Fire Emblem stories thanks to the Emblem Rings, and have them fight by his side....

Former Nintendo game tester Mackenzie Clifton, who claimed they were fired after asking about unionisation, has agreed to accept a settlement of $25,910 (around £23k) in pay, interest and damages. This agreement with the US National Labor Relations Board concludes Clifton’s long-running dispute with Nintendo and its contractor agency Aston Carter, through which they were employed to test Nintendo games. As part of the deal, Nintendo must also display a notice informing employees (in block capital letters) they “WILL NOT” be fired or stopped from discussing unionisation....

Fact: there is no single game I have ever played more than Rock Band 2. I got it the day it came out, and in the nearly two years since it released, I’ve probably spent more days playing it than not. You’d be safe in assuming that I am looking forward to Rock Band 3 more than a little bit. So far, there hasn’t been a lot of news on the third full edition of Harmonix’s rock star simulator, but that is slowly starting to change....
