Former Bioware Writer Says Studio Became Too Corporate

A former writer at BioWare has just come out and said what we’ve suspected for a long time: the studio has become way too corporate. BioWare used to be one of those shining examples of a game studio. They made glorious single-player RPGs with engaging stories set in beautiful science fiction or fantasy universes. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Baldur’s Gate, and Knights of the Old Republic were award-winning titles that defined a generation of gamers....

Dota 2 Patch 7 29 Brings The Dawnbreaker To Bear

Dota 2 patch 7.29, Dawnbreaker, has just launched. And you know what that means? That means it’s time for another of my lengthy and rambling posts about patch notes! Someone has to do it, after all. If you’ve been paying attention to any of the recent patches, you’ve probably got a fair idea of what’s inside. A new hero (the titular Dawnbreaker), along with item changes and removals, hero buffs and nerfs, and a fair few changes to both the basic mechanics and the map itself....

Dragon Quest Of The Stars Review

In The Silence of the Lambs, the villain of the movie is a serial killer named Buffalo Bill who murders women in order to use their skin to create a suit for himself. After playing Dragon Quest of the Stars for a while, it feels as if it has done a similar thing with the Dragon Quest franchise, as it mimics the aesthetics of the series very well, but inside, it’s a cold and calculating machine that just wants to take your money....

Ducktales Season 2 Episode 5 Review Storkules In Duckburg

This DuckTales review contains spoilers. DuckTales Season 2 Episode 5 Perhaps DuckTales‘ greatest strength is that it has something to say. While having fun, going on adventures, and making hilarious one-liners is integral to every episode, the fact it’s able to impart messages that don’t feel like they’re beating you over the head? That’s something to respect. Especially when the messages of this episode are to find solutions in business that are sustainable, treat workers right, pay them enough, and that big businesses will do whatever they can to stay alive even if that means creating problems to keep themselves alive....

Dungeon Of The Endless Spiritual Successor Endless Dungeon Out In May

Amplitude Studio’s Dungeon of the Endless spiritual successor Endless Dungeon - which it calls a “unique blend of roguelite, tactical action, and tower defense” - has been given a release date and will launch for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation on 18th May. Endless Dungeon, which was announced toward the end of 2020, shipwrecks players on a mysterious space station and tasks them with recruiting a team of heroes in an effort to transport a crystal to their vessel’s core, protecting it - via some frenetic top-down twin-stick shooting action - from ceaseless waves of monsters along the way....

Ea Ditches Skate Trademark Effectively Axing A Skate 4

Electronic Arts seems to have ditched the Skate series because it chose not to renew the Skate trademark this year (via VG247). VG247 spotted a United States Patent and Trademark Office (UPTO) detail that said the publisher had not responded to a request for correspondence from the UPTO. As a result, the trademark has been abandoned. I’ll speak plainly: it’s not looking good for those who have their fingers crossed for a Skate 4....

Elden Ring Review A New Benchmark For Open World Games

Elden Ring is almost upon us. Made by FromSoftware, Souls series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, and Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, it offers an action-packed adventure set in an open-world environment that’s both wonderful and gruesome to behold. My experience, as I’ll detail in our Elden Ring review, is based on a 60-hour playthrough. However, this was only for the single-player component. I wasn’t able to try out the multiplayer aspect due to level differences and mismatched schedules....

Elden Ring Technical Review Terrific But Tarnished

Elden Ring will be releasing soon. It’s one of the most anticipated games this year, and it’s bound to bring in a lot of new fans as well. As one of the Tarnished, you’ll explore the Lands Between to search for the Shardbearers as you make your way to the Erdtree (err, what?). Don’t ask. It’s complicated. Everything We Know About Tevinter For Dragon Age 4

Although it has been quite some time since Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Trespasser DLC released, there’s little doubt many fans of the franchise have forgotten how some events turned out. The final moments heavily implied that Dragon Age 4 would take the series to Tevinter, and while it may be some time before we see how Tevinter manifests itself in-game, there’s quite a bit known about the Mage-run country. Tevinter is located to the north of the Free Marches, the location of Dragon Age 2....

Evidence Says Pillars Of Eternity 2 Deadfire Was A Huge Flop

There’s still a market for old-school genres of video games, fans of those genres will say. Point-and-click adventures almost saw a revival, after all, thanks to Telltale. But we all know what happened there. So what of CRPGs, a genre for those who aren’t so happy with the open-world approach RPGs have taken in a post-Bethesda world? Pillars Of Eternity 2: Deadfire was meant to be a bastion for those gamers who want CRPGs to get their due....

Evil West Review An Absolute Blast

God I love a good werewolf. Werewolves, I propose, are a chance for game designers to be unreasonable. Werewolves do not wait politely to attack. They do not shamble and bunch together like zombies, taking blind swipes at you with the wrist rather than the hand. They do not have rail guns that need powering up. Instead, werewolves come out of nowhere and they’re suddenly right up close. They do not acknowledge your personal space....

Fallout New Vegas Director Is Working On A New Game At Obsidian Entertainment

Josh Sawyer, director of Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, is busy on his “own project” at Obsidian Entertainment. Avowed, announced in the most recent Xbox Games Showcase, is set in Eora, which is from the Pillars of Eternity universe. Sawyer also worked on Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, so it’s intriguing that he isn’t actively attached to Avowed. What has he got up his sleeve?...
