Romero Games and Paradox Interactive unveiled its new strategy game, Empire of Sin, during the E3 Nintendo Direct that took place yesterday evening. Here’s what the official website says on the game: ‘Set in the golden years (1920s Chicago), the game has players build their own ruthless criminal empire as one of 14 distinct bosses vying to run the seedy underworld of organized crime in the city. With randomly generated starting conditions, players will have to adapt to survive and do whatever it takes to outsmart, out-gun and outlast their opponents....

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has taken to Twitter following yesterday’s announcement of Shenmue 3 allowing refunds for Kickstarter backers who weren’t happy with the upcoming game becoming an Epic Games Store exclusive for one year, revealing that it’s actually them who’ll be footing the bill and pledging to do the same for crowdfunded projects going forward. In the tweet, Sweeney said that the Unreal and Fortnite creators stepped in ‘so that refunds won’t reduce Ys Net’s development funding’ and in a follow-up tweet, said that ‘When future games go Epic-exclusive after offering crowdfunding rewards on other PC stores, we’ll either coordinate with colleagues at the other stores to ensure key availability in advance, or guarantee refunds at announcement time....

Auto-runners are a curious subgenre in the realm of platformers. Aside from Bit Trip Runner, though, the games don’t get a lot of love outside of free-to-play mobile games. As the Runner games show, the genre can be a whole lot of fun, but more often than not, they’re lazy cash grabs. Evolve is going free-to-play, Turtle Rock Studios has confirmed. The 4v1 shooter will transition to a F2P model on PC as of today, with a console roll-out to follow later “should it prove successful”. As part of the celebrations for Fallout’s 25th anniversary, Bethesda has been uploading retrospectives on the history of the series. The latest video discusses Fallout: New Vegas, and Todd Howard, executive producer at Bethesda and one of its most public figures, revealed the game was initially conceived as an expansion for Fallout 3. Howard said following the success of Fallout 3, there was a “push” internally to ride the momentum the game had created....
