Electronic Arts has announced that it has reached an agreement with the board of Codemasters to acquire the developer for a cool $1.2 billion USD (£945 million GBP), outbidding a previous agreement the DiRT 5 developers made to be aquired by Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two just last month. Codemasters’ board is understood to have withdrawn their agreement for Take-Two’s lower offer late last night to side with EA, with a statement to Sky News who initially broke the story saying “In evaluating the EA offer, the Codemasters board has considered various aspects of the EA offer and considers the EA offer to represent a superior offer for Codemasters’ shareholders as compared with the Take-Two offer....

GameRankings, an aggregate scoring site that has been around since 1999, will be shutting down soon. In an official announcement on its website this morning, the company stated that starting December 9, it will be redirecting all visitors to its sister-website, MetaCritic. Both websites are part of the CBS Interactive group and it appears as if GameRankings has outgrown its relevance. Fortnite developer Epic Games has announced that it’s taking on Steam by launching its own dedicated gaming store. The Epic Games Store is set to launch ‘soon’ and specialises in PC and Mac titles, with developers gaining 88% of revenue in sales and the remaining 12% going to the Unreal Engine creator. It’s quite the difference when compared to the likes of Steam, which takes a 30% cut in revenue from game sales....
Nothing beats the price of free, and while Epic has been causing quite a stir in the PC marketplace lately, it’s true that the company has been giving out good games. That doesn’t seem likely to stop anytime soon, either, as the store now has another two games that users are able to download without spending a penny. In late January, V1 Interactive and Private Division hosted an online technical beta test for Disintegration, the upcoming shooter game that comes to us from former Bungie creative art director and Halo developer Marcus Lehto. Starbreeze Studios has been having a difficult time lately. Last December, the company went through restructuring following the poor reception of Overkill’s The Walking Dead. Yesterday, due to said reception, the license holder of The Walking Dead ended its contract with the publisher. Now, concerns are rising over another game it’s currently due to publish, Psychonauts 2.
