Elden Ring has been out for almost a month now and, while lots of players are having a great time, there are a few who want to spoil the fun. As spotted by Polygon, hackers are now using the invasion system in Elden Ring to corrupt other players’ save files. At the moment, neither Bandai Namco nor FromSoftware have commented on these issues. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened to one of its games though, so a fix may come soon....
Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco has pledged that the game’s online servers will be available at launch, following the introduction of “necessary security measures”. The news comes in the wake of the extended and ongoing downtime for the Dark Souls series’ PC online servers following reports of an exploit which allowed remote code execution (essentially, something that would allow someone else to take control of your PC). The suggestion was that Elden Ring would suffer from the same exploit, and Bandai Namco has until now been quiet on whether its big new release would be made safe in time for launch....
British developer Frontier Developments has announced a delay to Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, the eagerly-awaited next expansion to the developer’s popular space sim. Breaking the news in an update to fans on the game’s official website, Frontier said that “The ongoing impact of the pandemic however, including the renewed lockdowns in 2021, continues to put added pressure on our teams and ultimately our development timeline” as the reason for the delay, with the expansion originally expected to hit in “early 2021” on PC and consoles....

Meta, the owner of Facebook and maker of Meta Quest VR headsets, will cut 11,000 jobs in a deep effort to restructure its business, boss Mark Zuckerberg announced today. The move will see Meta’s overall workforce shrink by 13 percent, with some areas of the business impacted more than others. Specifically how this will impact the company’s development of Meta Quest remains unclear, though Zuckerberg stated today that the company’s “long-term vision for the metaverse” remained one of a small number of “high priority growth areas”....
Fall Guys continues with its bonkers crossovers, following Sonic the Hedgehog and Godzilla skins late last year. Epic Games has filed a lawsuit against a former employee for allegedly leaking details of the Season Four meteor strike event days before the season was about to begin, it has emerged. According to details of the lawsuit filed back in May and obtained by Polygon, Thomas Hannnah – a former QA tester with the company – broke a non disclosure agreement he had signed when he joined the company in December last year when he shared information with a third party who ultimately published the leaks on Reddit (which have since been removed) three weeks after Hannah left the company....

Bethesda has released the first gameplay trailer for demon-slaying shooter Doom Eternal, fresh from the stage at this year’s QuakeCon. It’s pretty much what you’d expect from a Doom game. It’s got exorbitantly powerful guns, demons, explosions, blood, and lots of limbs flying about the place. So yeah, Doom Eternal looks Doom-y, which is a good start. Doom Eternal is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
