While Dragon Age 4 may be years away from release, BioWare’s seen fit to let some news out regarding the upcoming RPG. In a letter from BioWare general manager Casey Hudson, Hudson explains recent events between the Edmonton and Austin BioWare studios. After providing updates for BioWare’s two live projects, Anthem and Star Wars: The Old Republic, Hudson briefly mentions “Other Stuff Going On.” It’s here that Hudson brings up Dragon Age 4....
EA has apparently allowed Bioware to focus on making the next as-yet-untitled Dragon Age game a singleplayer RPG and remove all live-service and multiplayer features from the project, according to reports. As per sources cited by Bloomberg’s report, the upcoming game was apparently set to feature a “heavy multiplayer component”, but the recent performance of other EA titles caused its leadership to think differently; with specific examples of Anthem‘s recent struggles that eventually resulted in a planned reboot being cancelled, and on the other side of the coin the huge success of single player-focused adventure Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order given as reasons for the change of heart from management....

The zombie-smashing game where you try to survive the apocalypse in the city of Harran was a smash hit for Techland. It’s no surprise that they’ll look to replicate their success with Dying Light: Bad Blood, the franchise’s take on the battle royale genre, which will be on Steam Early Access this September....

As NBA 2K20 balls out of control on the sales charts, the troubled NBA Live series is now sitting out the 2020 Season. EA has canceled this year’s entry in hopes of retooling the franchise for next-gen consoles. After an initial delay last summer, the game has been scrapped altogether and plans for unveiling the new title may come in January during the NBA All-Star Weekend. Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, gave the rationale that working on next-gen consoles would give developers new ideas and resources to use and that NBA Live would be a beneficiary of this renewed push....
EA has announced that it will be foregoing this year’s E3 and instead holding its second EA Play Live showcase of its own just over a month later, on July 22. As to what we’ll get to look at during this year’s event aside from the usual peeks at the publisher’s sports titles FIFA, Madden, EA Sports PGA Tour et al, Battlefield 6 is all but certain following its expected initial reveal in June....

The Lord of the Rings’ primary antagonist Sauron has come to Elden Ring thanks to a new armour mod. The mod comes from MaxTheMiracle, and reskins the player with Sauron’s black armour and humanoid figure seen in the likes of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film adaptations (but without that imposing height). The American television network ESPN2 has chosen to delay its broadcast of the EXP Apex Legends Invitational tournament, as a result of the mass shootings that occurred last weekend (via Rock Paper Shotgun). ESPN and ABC were going to air highlights from the Apex Legends tournament on this coming Saturday and Sunday respectively. Today, an ESPN representative confirmed their decision in a statement to Rock Paper Shotgun, and explained that, ‘The decision was made out of respect for the victims and all those impacted in the immediate aftermath of the shootings and it seemed the prudent thing to do given the swirl of that moment....
At Gamescom this year, Rockfish Games officially announced Everspace 2, the next installment in their space flight combat series. The studio featured a demo at Gamescom and PAX West, where numerous players showed up to see what Everspace 2 has to offer. At long last, the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake has been revealed. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch next winter, and is the second of what we now know to be a trilogy. It appears that there is some light at the end of the tunnel for Final Fantasy XIV players who have found their attempts to acquire a new home frustrated by a bug within the lottery system implemented with the latest update. The issue caused the lottery to fail to assign many plots of land to the proper winners, simply returning a “0” value, causing considerable frustration among the community. Today Square Enix posted another update signed by producer and director Naoki Yoshida, signalling the steps Square Enix is going to take to address the situation....
Final Fantasy XIV‘s patch 5.1, titled Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty, has launched at long last, bringing all sorts of new content (including NieR!) and changes to Square Enix’s MMO. And I do mean “all sorts.” The full patch notes dropped last night, and they’re gigantic. (Be warned: spoilers lurk within that link. Not here, though.) For endgame players, the most important additions will likely be the new content. It looks like there are 10 Main Scenario Quests, a side story quest, plus the quests leading up to the Copied Factory....
