Dying Light 2 is an ugly game. Taking place some 15 years after Techland’s parkour-fuelled 2015 open world original, it’s set against a world completely ravaged by the viral outbreak that began back in Harran, where disputes are solved with a rusty iron pipe to the head and the people holed up in the small number of mediaeval settlements barricaded against the breakout are well beyond hope (this is a grimly prescient thing in more ways than one)....

Sometimes simple things can be the most impactful. So it is with Eighth Grade, a small story of a young girl during her last week before she graduates and goes off to high school, which manages to resonate and devastate on a grand scale. The debut feature from actor and comedian Bo Burnham, it’s a keenly observed comedy-drama that at times feels as tense and harrowing as a horror movie, even though in big dramatic terms nothing much really happens....

After just over a year as chief of 20th Century Studios, Emma Watts announced Thursday she is stepping down from the company. Writing to her staff in a memo, Watts revealed that following a long period of deliberation, she made the difficult choice to resign from the studio that has been her home for more than two decades. Formerly the vice chair and longtime president of production at 20th Century Fox before becoming the studio head in October 2018, Watts had greenlight power over the Fox slate for years that saw a slew of memorable and original films rise up during her tenure: Avatar, Deadpool, The Revenant, Logan, The Martian, The Post, Hidden Figures, Gone Girl, the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise and more....

Following the news that Dakota Johnson will be taking on the mantle of the titular Madame Web, we now know one of her co-stars joining the film. As reported by Deadline, Sydney Sweeney of Euphoria fame will be joining the Sony Pictures’ production in a yet unnamed role. Sweeney can be seen in HBO’s Euphoria, as well as White Lotus. With plot details still not revealed yet, it is unlikely that we will learn who she will be portraying as part of the feature film....

EVO 2019, the biggest fighting game event in the world, has arrived. Tournament players are swarming Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, with pools matches starting at 10:00 am PDT. Friday’s main events will feature 9 different games, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Street Fighter 5, Tekken 7 and more. Friday is just the start of EVO, however, with Saturday also filled with tournament action and Sunday seeing the finals of EVO 2019’s four headling games....

Ubisoft has announced that Dead Living Zombies, the upcoming third slice of DLC for Far Cry 5, will launch on August 28 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The undead-themed expansion sees players teaming up with a bloke named Guy Marvel, a D-tier film guru looking to pitch his vision for an ’epic zombie saga’ by having you battle hordes of walking corpses across various different scenarios. One of these includes a zombie-infested take on the story of Romeo and Juliet, with the former just happening to be an amalgamation of pretty much every horror creature you can think of....

It appears that FIFA 23’s upcoming World Cup Mode has appeared a little earlier than intended. As noted by Twitter account FIFA 23 News, a number of players found themselves able to access a menu for the mode on PlayStation overnight. It seems players were able to access the menus temporarily through the PlayStation 5’s activities tab – and were able to see a number of features including Online Quickplay, Tournaments and more....

PlayStation Japan has announced it will be holding a special Play! Play! Play! livestream later this month, which will feature around an hour of content including peeks at Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Resident Evil Village. As spotted by Video Games Chronicle, the event will take place on Sunday, March 21 and will include interviews with Capcom’s Morimasu Sato and Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase. It’ll be broadcast on PlayStation Japan’s official YouTube channel at 8pm Japan time, which translates to around 11am in the UK....

The first three Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games got release dates, and they’re coming out relatively soon. Final Fantasy I, II, and III will be releasing July 29 on Steam, so it won’t be long until fans can explore the origins of the famous JRPG franchise. According to a CNET report, Electronic Arts recently had to patch a vulnerability in its digital distribution client Origin. Security researchers from Check Point and CyberInt found that the vulnerability could have exposed millions of users to a security flaw that would have allowed hackers to hijack accounts without login or password theft. Instead, the exploit would steal a single sign-on authorization token, giving the hackers complete control. Oded Vanunu, head of products vulnerability research for Check Point, said in a statement: “EA’s Origin platform is hugely popular, and if left unpatched, these flaws would have enabled hackers to hijack and exploit millions of users’ accounts....
