Well, no, Fire Emblem: Three Houses’ monastery isn’t actually haunted. Still, you’d totally be forgiven for thinking it was, with terrifying bugs like this one causing ghostly apparitions to pass through walls.

So, Switch players, how are you finding the game? There’s no doubt that it’s one of the most ambitious titles the franchise has yet seen; taking things in a new-yet-familiar direction while pumping the scope up to eleven, a la The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. As fans will know, players take the role of a new professor at a prestigious military academy, getting to know their individual units (the students of their chosen house) to an extent Fire Emblem has never offered before.

Three Houses has been a critical phenomenon, and rightly so. There’s so much to do besides the familiar turn-based battling, with the expansive Garreg Mach Monastery to explore on your day off from teaching. Cultivating relationships with the students and faculty, fishing, a little light gardening, a variety of sidequests… you can do whatever you fancy. Except pet the cats. You can’t do that.

As we eagerly await some kind of cat-petting DLC, let’s take a look at one activity the developers never intended for us to indulge in: ghost hunting. Call up Harold Ramis and whip out your proton packs, because Three Houses has a very unfortunate and very curious bug.

As we all know, nothing gets by the gaming sleuths of reddit. User lytelovespie shared a clip of this little doozy of a glitch, which makes it seem as though Garreg Mach’s cemetery has a supernatural resident.

As Byleth enters the cemetery and approaches the steps, you can clearly see a spectral form walk through said steps and disappear. While the party poopers in the reddit comment thread conclude that this is a simple glitch, it’s pretty darn neat regardless.

“If you walk up the stairs you will see a soldier walking from side to side and his position matches the shadow figure perfectly. So it must be a glitch on the lighting side of things," Danitron99 explains.

Who is the phantom… phantom of Three Houses? Is it just the aforementioned soldier? Well, yes, almost certainly. Still, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a glitch that was actually welcome in a game, so that’s something.
