The recent Final Fantasy VII Remake demo leak revealed a lot of information about the game that hadn’t officially been announced by Square Enix, and no one is more upset about this than the scenario writer of the game, who took to Twitter to express his sadness at all of the spoilers that are now on the Internet.
It was revealed on Christmas Eve that images for a Final Fantasy VII Remake demo had been added to the PlayStation Store. Fans managed to download the demo files and get them running, which allowed the game to be datamined. The fans discovered lots of elements of Final Fantasy VII Remake that had yet to be revealed in trailers, including the new designs for Red XIII, the Shinra executives, Cloud in drag, and some new spoiler content that we won’t repeat here.
The leak has hit at least one Square Enix employee hard, as the scenario writer of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Remake has taken to Twitter to express their disappointment in the leaks. Kazushige Nojima has put up a post on Twitter discussing how he feels trampled by these leaks.
After posting this message, Nojima put up a link to “Don’t Look Back in Anger” by Oasis, showing a surprising interest in Britpop. Later that day, Nojima followed up with another message saying how he was healed and he thanked the fans before going to bed.
It has become increasingly difficult for video game developers to prevent leaks regarding upcoming video game content, due to the sheer number of people involved in developing, testing, and promoting a video game. All it takes is one unruly employee to spoil years worth of work, or in this case, a premature addition of a demo to the PlayStation Store. It must be hard for Nojima and his staff to see so many leaks regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake, but in reality, it has only made fans more excited about the new content that is coming to the game.
