The day that Final Fantasy fans have waited decades for has finally arrived, as the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo is launching on the PlayStation Store in different regions.

It was revealed at the end of 2019 that a demo of Final Fantasy VII Remake was coming to the PlayStation Store, as assets for the game appeared within the data for the service. The fans expected it to launch around Christmas time as a sort of gift, but it just sat there. Uploading the demo early turned into a huge problem for Square Enix, as fans were able to access its data and leak aspects of the game online, including updated character designs and new scenes.

It seems that Square Enix is finally ready to launch Final Fantasy VII Remake into the world, as the demo has gone live in some regions. As of the time of writing, the demo is live in the European PlayStation Store. There are pages for the demo in the Australian and North American PlayStation Stores, but they haven’t gone live just yet. UPDATE - The demo is now live in North America.

The demo contains the bombing of the first Mako reactor in Midgar and it’s around 8GB in size. The player’s progress won’t be carried over into the main game and the same segment from the main game might look different, as the demo is based on an earlier build.

The fact that the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo never launched at Christmas led some fans to believe that it would be released on March 3. which was the original release date for the game before it was pushed back to April. It seems that the fans weren’t far off, and the people who are sad that they can’t play the game just yet can at least sate their hunger on the demo. The fans have waited for twenty years for this moment and the time has finally come to go back to Midgar.
