FIFA fans are hoping that player switching is improved in this year’s game.

There has a been growing frustration with last year’s FIFA 22 over an alleged ‘delay’ when you try to switch players – which can more often than not have pretty serious consequences during a match.

This allegedly affects both standard ‘quick’ L1 /LB switching and right stick switching – which tends to be favoured by more experienced players.

There are also claims that when using L1 /LB switching, the in-game AI selects a player that is not optimal – which again, can eat up valuable seconds and give your opponent an advantage.

One gamer on the FIFA Reddit wrote: “L1 switching is terrible (FIFA”s AI is very very bad). Quite often, L1 doesn’t switch and when it does, it’s to a pretty poor option. L1 switching when defending in box is also a real nightmare.”

They continued: “Then right stick switching is horrible. Was bad at start of the year then they made it even worse with the patch to select the defenders more often. Now, you can gently push the right stick towards a midfielder closest to the ball and it’d select a defender way out. Right stick switching when in box is abysmal.”

Currently, FIFA 23 is going through a Closed Beta – which does not represent the final quality of the game. As such, impressions and reviews of the beta are not allowed – however, encouragingly, if key gameplay elements like this are raised, there are hopes EA will take notice and look to make tweaks ahead of the game’s launch on September 30.

Take Pro Clubs, for example. When this was raised by the community after it was seemingly missed off the list for cross play, EA responded and gave the community some hope. So they are listening – we’ll just have to wait and see.

Elsewhere in the run-up to the FIFA 23 launch, the yearly Pre-Season campaign has kicked off in FIFA 22.

Just like with FUTTIES, EA will release ‘Best of’ players in batches – and we can expect a lot of them!

Last year there were 200 players available in Pre Season. You can can check out the latest news – and what fans would like to see in week 2, right here
