Far Cry has been a game series that has changed quite a bit lately with its couple of last installments, re-defining the main elements that affect how the game plays and feels. No matter how the series changes, one of the main points of focus is, of course, the guns. Far Cry 5 is an FPS game with a decently-sized arsenal of guns to choose from, however, those who played it have made the remark that the arsenal is filled with almost equal parts of useless guns, as well as very powerful ones.
In this list, we will take a look at some of the guns you should definitely get your hands on while playing, as well as those that are not worth even paying attention to.
10 GOOD: 1911
Surprisingly, this classic pistol, which is one of the best pistols in the game, is a weapon you get at the start of the game. Although it isn’t awfully overpowered, it is very reliable due to its great handling, making headshots easier. It is also a great pick to those who like to do things more stealthily, giving the option to get attachments such as a suppressor that lets you put down enemies with one well-placed shot, and get away with it.
Don’t let the fact that it’s a common gun fool you into thinking that it isn’t good, as it can easily get you out of a bind when low on ammo for your other guns.
9 BAD: .308 Carbine
Although the stats on this gun seem relatively high for a sniper rifle, not everything is as it seems. Many of those who have played Far Cry 5 and have used this rifle usually agree that this sniper is nowhere near as good as the other available options. In some cases, it does so little damage that even a headshot does not guarantee a kill, and coupling this with a slow rate of fire makes this gun virtually useless.
Say what you want, but the general consensus is that sniper rifles are supposed to be extremely effective at what they do - shoot accurately and deal massive amounts of damage. This gun didn’t get that memo, it seems.
8 GOOD: AR-CL
Strangely enough, when compared to the .308 Carbine, the stats of the AR-CL would make anyone assume that it is worse, but it turns out to be a much better option for a sniper. Not only is it technically a sniper rifle, giving it great range and damage, but it can also go into automatic mode, making it viable for mid- or close-ranged gunfights.
Ignoring the fact that it is not incredibly powerful, the AR-CL definitely makes up for it with its range, rate of fire, and general versatility.
7 BAD: SMG-11
Here is a good example of when even an enormous rate of fire can’t redeem a gun that is simply bad in most cases. If you ever wanted to spray a hail of bullets in a second at a target right in front of you, but still wonder if even one bullet hit them, the SMG-11 is the gun for you. But seriously, even though this gun isn’t completely useless, it’s nowhere near as useful as other options.
Although there might be some uses for this gun, they are so few and far apart that you might as well invest in a better gun instead.
6 GOOD: SBS
If you often find yourself in situations where you get overrun by enemies in tight areas, then the SBS is the gun for you. This double-barreled shotgun is no joke, blowing away anyone unfortunate enough to stand in front of you. When the damage is so good, the fact that you can only take two shots before needing to reload doesn’t take away from its usefulness.
So if you find yourself playing aggressively, constantly running up to the faces of your foes, then this classic shotgun will be the absolute best choice, and will not let you down.
5 BAD: M133 MS
When you think about shotguns in games, usually we think of them as one-hit-kill machines that we can rely on when in tight spaces. Unfortunately, there are sometimes shotguns that are completely unreliable, and leave us wondering as to why they were included at all. This is the case for the M133 MS, which has decent damage, but its poor accuracy, range, and rate of fire make it completely overshadowed by other options.
Even if you are a fan of using shotguns in video games, there is virtually no good reason for you to use this gun while playing Far Cry 5.
4 GOOD: Brass Knuckles
Sure, using guns in video games is fun, but it can get boring after a while. A good remedy to this is to choose a weapon that lets you get close and personal with your enemies and deliver deadly blows. Although there are quite a few melee weapon options in this game, the brass knuckles make you feel more badass, letting you wind up your punch before cracking some skulls.
Don’t let the short range of the brass knuckles fool you, as this weapon is more effective than it might seem. Once they get bloody you can even change up their color to fit your mood!
3 BAD: The Slingshot
Sometimes, it really seems as if the developers simply put random numbers for the weapons’ stats and call it a day. The slingshot is evidence of just that, as it can easily fool players into thinking that it is a powerful and well-rounded weapon when in reality it is practically useless. You can use it to sling rocks at peoples’ heads, which is funny, sure, but it is useless as a weapon when said headshots don’t even knock enemies out with one shot.
We understand that this may be considered somewhat of a joke weapon, but it has so few redeeming qualities that it’s not even worth keeping in the weapon wheel.
2 GOOD: MBP .50
When it comes to snipers that you can rely on being accurate, reliable, and powerful, there is no match for the MBP .50. As long as you can aim it properly, this beast of a gun will make sure to annihilate anyone in its crosshairs. Even though it doesn’t have an awfully fast rate of fire, it doesn’t really matter when one shot is usually enough to put down any enemy in your way, making it an absolute must-have for players who enjoy sniping enemies from a distance.
Make sure to get this sniper, as it will definitely prove more than capable of taking down enemies one by one from a safe distance. Just make sure to have a side-arm in case someone manages to sneak up behind you.
1 BAD: Skorpion
Here is one SMG you should not put your trust in during a gunfight under any circumstances. Similar to the case of the SMG-11, the Skorpion is only good for a spray-and-pray scenario where the enemy is right in front of you, and any target further than a breath’s distance away from you still has a chance to walk away unscathed. Sure, it may be fun to spray a hail of bullets in a fraction of a second, but during a fight, there are extremely few scenarios where it’s actually useful.
Despite the cool name and design of the gun, there is basically no practicality to this gun, and it only serves to take up space in your inventory.
