Aniplex just announced a game from the Fate series on the Nintendo Switch, and it’s probably not what you think it is.

The game is called Mainichi ♪ Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan, or Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family. It’s based on a spin-off of Type-Moon’s Fate/stay night series where all the characters are put into daily life situations. This is a bit removed from the original series that features an intense and deadly tournament called the Holy Grail War that allows the victor to have their wish granted. Participants in this fight are magic users and summoned heroic figures from throughout history — this means everyone from Joan of Arc to King Arthur. There are many reiterations of the series and this particular one takes a happier, more slice of life approach.

TAa, the original creator of the Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan manga, is supervising the game to make sure it’s faithful to the feel of the manga and anime. The game is said to be a cooking adventure, giving the heroic characters a much-needed break. Fans should expect to see recipes that were featured in the manga and anime pop up in-game. There will also be completely new recipes with their own stories.

Fate has a lot of western fans and has a huge amount of loyal players for its mobile game, Fate/Grand Order. It’ll be interesting to see if the game is eventually localized. The game being on Nintendo Switch also opens a lot of possibilities for future Fate games to make their way onto the console. The last Fate related game on the Switch was Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star and that was released back in July 2017. With a universe as wide and varied as Fate, there will surely be a lot of opportunities for new content.

Mainichi ♪ Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan is set to be released exclusively in Japan this Spring in the Nintendo eShop. You can find out more about the series on its official website.
