The former boss of Sony Online Entertainment has shed some light on Sony’s reasons for blocking cross-platform play, and perhaps unsurprisingly, it all boils down to one thing: Money.

‘When I was at Sony, the stated reason internally for this was money,’ he said. ‘They didn’t like someone buying something on Xbox and it being used on a PlayStation. Simple as that. Dumb reason, but there it is.’

He then added that problem will likely go away if players ‘keep the pressure up.’

The PlayStation console maker has famously blocked cross-platform play on titles such as Minecraft and Rocket League. Even playing Fortnite on PS4 blocks you from using your existing Epic Games account on the Switch version of the battle royale title.

Got anything to say about Sony’s stance on cross-platform play? Then why not sound off in the forums?
