Grinding Gear Games has announced Delirium as the first expansion of the year for Path of Exile. Players will have the opportunity to take on endgame content through a range of difficulties and add to the already massive skill tree with the use of a special Cluster Jewel.
The Mirror of Delirium
A major focus of the expansion lies in players discovering the Mirror of Delirium. Like previous expansions, activating this new object will spawn new opponents and make existing ones far more powerful, so it is wise to consider carefully the best time to dive in. There will be plenty of monster modifiers added to make situations far deadlier than they are now, along with new bosses and both rare and unique monsters.
The further a player delves into the Delirium, the greater the challenges and the rewards. For single players, this will come in the form of a new modification to endgame maps.
Orbs Of Delirium
One of the most important items this expansion will be Orbs of Delirium. Like other modifiers, these can be applied to endgame maps to directly affect how intense a player experiences their Delirium. One Orb will be difficult, and up to five can be used in a single encounter for the most difficult modifiers, but also the best rewards.
Finally, the ultimate challenge lies in the Simulacrum. In the deepest depths of a player’s Delirium, Simulacrum Splinters can be located and, once 100 have been collected, players can access the ultimate endgame fight in this expansion.
An Ever-Expanding Skill Tree
One of the most important announcements from the expansion is the ability to continue expanding a player’s skill tree. Players will have to option to extend their passive skill trees using a Cluster Jewel, placed in the outermost sockets, with craftable mods to improve the passives that can be acquired. In total, players will have the ability to add one of 280 new notables, or to graft additional sockets for even greater expansion.
These can be acquired from any monster in the Delirium League and are sure to make a massive impact on the game. It will be fascinating to see what new builds come from the addition of new passives for endgame progression and, more importantly, if players will still be able to compete without investing too much into acquiring more and more Cluster Jewels.
New Skills, New Gems, New Builds?
Path of Exile has always been about building a character in the way that best suits each player. Delirium will introduce a total of four new Skills games and three new Support Gems. For example, Blade Blast will allow players to strategically detonate blades that have been left behind by Ethereal Knives, Blade Vortex, and Bladefall. Stormbind will place storm runes along the ground that spread as long as a player channels, which can also be detonated when desired for major damage.
There are also new items being added, including new Divination Cards and Unique Items that will further promote new and unique build opportunities. Perfidy, a Glorious Plate piece of armor, will promote the use of two different Banners at the same time, with buffs to both War Banner and Dread Banner.
Delirium Supporter Packs
As always, Path of Exile remains free-to-play with the option to spend some money to show support to the developer. Delirium will feather two sets of Supporter Packs this time around, with the Darkseer and Fateweaver Packs. Both base packs cost $30 USD and include 250 points, a title, weapon effect, cloak, portrait frame, and the Delirium League Extended Digital Soundtrack. The Elite Fateweaver and Darkseer Packs offer similar items for $60, including more points and upgrade cosmetics.
There are only a couple of weeks to wait before Delirium launches on March 13, so get ready to dive into the madness! Path of Exile is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
