The name of the game for 2020 has been delaying your game! Yay! Everywhere you look there is a new game being delayed this year. It’s kind of like all the developers were waiting for someone else to delay before they announced their own cute little several month push back. It’s like when everyone in the class is waiting for someone to turn their test in first, and then the floodgates open.
While there were more than enough delays announced in 2019 for 2020 games (Animal Crossing, Watch Dogs, The Last of Us seven seconds after the initial date was revealed), today we’re going to be taking a look at all of the 2020 games that have been delayed this year. In the 3 weeks that we’ve had of this year. There’s enough to talk about from three weeks. Let’s jump into it with the delay that you all probably care about the least.
5 Marvel’s Iron Man VR
It was announced very recently that the game the world already forgot about has received a delay. Originally slated for some sort of a 2019 release date and then moving to February 2020, we now know that Marvel’s Iron Man VR is set for release on May 15th, which is weirdly the exact date that Marvel’s Avengers was originally planned for. Just swap out the entire team for one member, apparently.
This VR game certainly isn’t as high-profile as some of the other entries on this list, but it is certainly still worth noting. Looks like you’ll have to wait a little longer to swing around 15-year-old controllers while pretending to be Iron Man.
4 Marvel’s Avengers
Look It’s Like We’re Part Of The MCU But We Also Really Aren’t And It’s Kind Of Off-Putting But Weeeee Avengers was originally slated for release for May 15, 2020. However, Square Enix recently announced jk, we gonna wait a bit on this one. And the other big boy. But more on that later!
Square Enix announced that the game will now be released in September, which is a four-month delay. That’s pretty massive, and highlights that the game needs some serious polish before it’s quite ready for release. Perhaps the September date puts the title more in line with the release of the next-gen consoles? Either way, this delay shows that Square Enix cares about giving us a strong product on release day.
3 Final Fantasy 7 Remake
The “somehow even more confusing as the days roll on” Final Fantasy 7 Remake is also a victim of delay, albeit a much more reasonable one-month setback. The game is now set for release on April 10th.
What this game even is… who’s to say at this point? How the rest of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is going to be doled out to fans is just a confusing mess. All we know is that for now, it looks as if we’re going to be able to jump into part of Final Fantasy 7 on April 10th. At least April was cleared out by our next entry on the list.
2 Cyberpunk 2077
Oh okay, so no one is releasing anything for the first half of 2020, perfect. It’s not like anything big is happening at the end of the year, nothing at all.
Originally releasing on April 16th, Cyberpunk 2077 decided to instead crunch its developers right into September. CD Projekt Red said that the game is playable at this point, but just needs a bit more polish before release. Also, the multiplayer mode won’t release until 2022. Why… why even do it at that point? 2022 is like seven years away or something.
Well, at the very least, it’s nice that April is now only home to FFVII. Cyberpunk 2077 is also completely alone in September. There’s not a single other game releasing that month. At all. Nothing else. It is all clear. Things are great. Everybody is thriving.
1 Dying Light 2
When it is spring and your game still only has a spring launch window, things are bad. That’s exactly the position that Dying Light 2 found itself in. The developers announced in January that the game is being delayed from its already vague window to… nothing. This game could come out tomorrow or in 2030 there’s really no way to tell.
While Dying Light 2 clearly isn’t as hyped as some of the other games on this list, it’s still sad to see another delay this year. The entire release schedule for the first half of the year was pretty much obliterated. The second half of 2020 is going to be an absolute nightmare… but at least we’ll have more time to pump Animal Crossing and Doom directly into our veins at the exact same time. What a duo.
