There’s only a few more days left in 2019 which means there are only a few days left in Epic’s free game giveaway. As rumored yesterday, Heart Machine’s 2016 hit Hyper Light Drifter is now available for grabs from the Epic Games Store. Much like Celeste, this is a repeat title from earlier in the year. If you’ve been keeping up with previous giveaways, you should already have this.

If you don’t, then what are you waiting for? Hyper Light Drifter was one of the best titles released in 2016 for its mixture of difficult combat, breathtaking pixel art, and Zelda-esque exploration. It plays like a minimalist version of Link to the Past with some deviously brutal combat. An easy mode was added a few months after release, so don’t let my description put you off.

You’ll have until tomorrow, December 28, at 11:00 am EST/8:00 am PST to add the game to your library. Just navigate to the Hyper Light Drifter store page, click buy, and you’ll be off drifting through the hyper lights…or something. I sort of forget what the plot is about, but the game is great.

What will tomorrow hold for users? It looks as if Shadow Tactics will be on the docket. A real-time strategy game from Daedalic Entertainment released late in 2016, it went on to be well received by fans and critics alike. It bears some resemblance to old-school games like Commandos and Desperados if those ring any bells.

As should be readily apparent, there doesn’t seem to be any cohesive theme to the games Epic has been handing out. Everything in this holiday giveaway has been indie and good, but that could explain a lot of titles. It seems more that Epic is welcoming new publishers and developers onto the store with a free game for users.

At any rate, we’ll be ending 2019 with a sizeable library of games in our Epic libraries. There’s still no word on if Epic will continue a similar strategy into 2020, but it wouldn’t matter if it does. Users already have a nice haul and many haven’t even opened their wallets to obtain it.
