Dying Light is five years old this year and to celebrate, it will be free to play on Steam the whole weekend. There will also be new updates that will drastically change its gameplay, as well as local and global events.

With Dying Light 2 around the corner, publisher Techland is going all out to celebrate the game’s fifth anniversary. Not only is it allowing gamers to play the game for free over the weekend, but it has also released a fifth Anniversary Bundle containing loads of goodies, including new weapons, a new outfit, and the new Story Mode.  There will also be some local and global community events happening until March 18, which promise to bring back some fan-favorites. The blueprint for a new sticky C4 device and a surprise outfit will also be available as part of the community rewards.

The free weekend started February 20 and will end on Sunday, February 23 at 7 PM CET / 6 PM PT/GMT. Players who want to purchase the game over the weekend can also get it up to 67% off the normal price.

The DLC content will feature the Veteran’s ride buggy paint job and new weapons, including:

  • A new pipe with +50 consecutive hits boost damage after three hits A double-barreled shotgun with increased bullet speed, damage, and 50% faster reloading, which packs a heavy punch and can shoot both shells at once A sledgehammer

One of the other fascinating updates is the new Story Mode, which will make the game easier and allows players to focus more on exploration and story rather than survival. This  mode will make you stronger and enemies weaker. Medkits also restore twice as much health and fall damage is reduced. Airdrops will last twice as long on the map and traders will pay more for goods. The only downside is that you will earn half as much legend experience in the new mode.

The release of Dying Light 2 has been pushed back and has no official date yet. Thanks to the update, players will still be able to experience new content and enjoy the first game before the sequel eventually drops.
