Sadly, Dreams isn’t coming to PC anytime soon, but the developer is into the idea.
Dreams came out last week on Valentine’s Day, which is the perfect day for it to arrive. Now you and your special someone can spend hours re-creating Final Fantasy VII or Metal Gear Solid in Dreams instead of playing something else. There’s something magical to creating things instead of destroying them–just as Minecraft.
We’ve already seen a lot of Dreams, including this fantastic recreation of Stardew Valley’s Pelican Town. Sony seems to think that Dreams will change the way we create games, which is a lofty goal for a puzzle-platformer.
However, Dreams is a PlayStation exclusive property, and it looks like Sony doesn’t want that genie to escape the bottle. While last year there were reports of Dreams being ported to PC, those rumors have been shut down by Media Molecule’s creative director, Mark Healey.
Speaking to VGC at the game’s launch event last Thursday, Healey said that he’d love to see Dreams on PC, but right now it’s not on their radar.
“I think that would be cool," Healey said. “I mean obviously Sony has an opinion about that but yeah, I think, I don’t know where it’s going to go in the future, I mean it would be great to see that.
“That’s not something that’s happening right now, but I think a lot of that depends on where the games industry goes in general, I suppose.”
On the other hand, never say never. Reports from last month revealed that Sony might be working on a PC port of Horizon: Zero Dawn, which would be the first PS4-exclusive title to ever make the leap to PC. That, says Healey, gives some hope for Dreams doing the same.
In the meantime, Dreams is now available for download on the PlayStation store. Sony has big plans for its little game creation engine, and folks are already digging into the game’s powerful creative tools. You’ll be able to download other players’ creations from in-game to try them out for yourself.
