Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser has said that he finds the recent contractor complaints at the company “troubling.”
Axios has published excerpts from an internal e-mail that Bowser sent, in which he acknowledged the reports. These have to do with what some contractors have described as a culture of exclusion at the company. Not only that, but a lack of progression opportunities for contractors, and pay complaints.
“Like many of you, the executive leadership team and I find many of these points troubling, and we are closely reviewing the content,” said Bowser.
Bowser also spoke about Nintendo’s “zero-tolerance for inappropriate conduct, including harassment, discrimination or intimidation.”
Just recently, Reggie Fils-Aimé, the previous company president, spoke on his own feelings toward the reports. He said that the reports seemed to describe a different company than the one he had left. “The reports I hear really strike me as just not the company I knew. And I’ll just leave it at that.”
“While I was at Nintendo, we routinely had meetings and events where our Associates—that’s how we referred to our contract employees—were invited.” He also mentioned inviting contract workers to “bi-monthly and quarterly lunches.”
As per Axios, the National Labor Relations Board has filed an official complaint against Nintendo. Nintendo has yet to respond publicly and officially.
