Dota Underlords will emerge from Steam Early Access on February 25th.

Welcome to the age of Autobattlers. Riot has their Teamfight Tactics, Epic has Auto Chess, and Valve has Dota Underlords, the Dota 2-based autobattler that traces its lineage to the original Auto Chess mod for Dota 2.

Dota Underlords first arrived last summer to much fanfare and then proceeded into beta early access. From there, it’s been a string of content updates, balance passes, and bug fixes as the folks over at Valve get the game in fighting shape. Players have been patiently waiting for the game to officially release, and it looks like we finally have a date.

On February 25th, Dota Underlords will receive it’s version 1.0 update.

So what’s coming with Underlords 1.0? Content, content, and more content. And also a Battlepass system, since it seems to be all the rage these days.

First, there’s the City Crawl, a thing which Valve gave absolutely no explanation for but has been mentioned before in previous updates. There will also be a new Hero/Item rotation in order to keep the game fresh and the meta from stagnating.

And finally, the Battlepass. As with Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and countless other online games, the Battlepass will provide ranked progression and a steady stream of rewards as you play the game. We don’t know exactly how the Battlepass will work for Dota Underlords, but we can’t imagine it being much different from other battlepasses.

Along with the release announcement, the January 30th update has brought a new hero: Enno. This gremlin-looking creature might look adorable with his furry ears and skull mask, but he’s a terror on the battlefield, using his ripcord to bounce around the map and his blow darts to poison enemies. He can also heal his team while stealing health from his opponents or he can just buff his damage for an all-out ambush.

Dota Underlords will officially arrive as a real game on February 25th. Expect more updates as we get closer to that date.
