With Chinese New Year right around the corner, Dota 2 has joined the bandwagon and released their festive event along with in-game consumables and cosmetics for gamer’s around the world to enjoy until next week Friday, February 3rd.
The returning seasonal event is called New Bloom. New Bloom debuted six years ago, with a new game mode. This year, that mode is nowhere to be found. Instead, there are just the usual free consumables and a free treasure.
The event runs from January 23rd to February 3rd. That gives Dota 2 players time to level up throughout the event. Just like the previous Frostivus event, players will receive free consumables that can be used in-game for ostentatious purposes. Along with the free consumables, players will receive free items and chat wheel emotes from leveling up their event-level bar with the maximum being level twenty.
Additionally, players will be given the ability to gift other gamer’s in-game a free New Bloom Wheel Spin, which is like every other spin-a-wheel and win-a-prize mechanic. The top prize for luck dependent wheel is the immortal grade courier called Nian and the other prizes range from cosmetic sets to announcers to treasures.
Dota 2’s new treasure is named Treasure of Unbound Majesty, which depicts a lot of jungle and Aztec vibes along with some Asian and Western influences. There are twelve cosmetic items that players can get with the treasure; those cosmetics belong to Drow, Visage, Undying, Storm Spirit, Dark Willow, Arc Warden, Kunkka, Dazzle, Rubick, Puck, Legion Commander, and Templar Assasin.
Although the theme is Lunar New Year, the whole identity of each cosmetic is quite confusing at first for fans. Only a few stay true to the essence of the theme: Undying, Storm Spirit, Visage, Templar Assassin, and Puck. Despite the reuse of ideas from previous cosmetic lines, each skin stands out as unique. The Treasure of Unbound Majesty goes for $2.49 in the in-game client, and if you don’t want to spend money, you can level up your event level to level 25 to receive one free Treasure.
New Bloom is a reoccurring seasonal event, but as every year passes, Valve keeps upping the ante - especially with cosmetics that surpass the past year’s line. Despite the ongoing argument about not bringing back the Lunar Beast mode back, Valve kept standards slightly above average, and that by itself is amazing.
