Dota 2 is the top paying game for eSports players.

If you want to make real money playing video games, the game you should be playing is Dota 2. According to the latest analysis from GoldenCasinoNews.com, all ten of the top 10 earning eSports players in the world got their money playing Dota 2.

The highest-paid player overall, Johan “N0tail” Sundstein, has taken home almost $6.9 million over the course of his eSports career. Most of that money (about $5.4 million) came from playing Dota 2 in 2018 and 2019. The next highest-grossing gamer was Finnish Dota player Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka who has received $6.47 million over the course of his career.

And it’s not hard to see how they manage to make all this money. While there are plenty of games in the eSports scene, Dota 2 is the one that provides the biggest cash prizes.

The International, Dota 2’s largest tournament, takes the best teams and players from all over the world for the largest prize pool in eSports history. For the past 5 years, The International has offered more money than the Fortnite World Cup, League of Legends World Championship, or PUBG Global Championship.

In 2019, the International’s total prize pool was over $34 million.

How does Valve manage to make such ridiculously enormous prize pools? Only part of that prize is funded by the company. The rest is funded directly by players buying from Dota 2’s “Compendium” battle pass system. The more players buy, the more stuff gets unlocked.

The top team at 2019’s International took home over $15 million, which meant that each player grabbed more than $3 million. And of course, N0tail was on the winning team, OG.

With the way Dota 2 has been going, expect next year’s prize to be even larger than this year’s. And expect the team that wins The International to be the highest-grossing eSports player in the world.
