Retro Studios is welcoming a familiar face as it prepares for the highly anticipated continuation of the Metroid Prime series. Stephen Dupree, who is best known for his works as lead designer for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and the 3DS port of Mario Kart 7, will serve as the principal game designer for the Texas-based studio.
Nintendo turned heads when it announced its intention of bringing Samus Aran back to her roots following 2010’s awkward reinvention of the series in Other M. Fans have been clamoring for another Metroid Prime game since the legendary trilogy wrapped up in 2007, and Nintendo is hoping a fourth Prime will do the trick.
Though Metroid Prime 4 is still some ways away, Retro is assembling a top tier team of developers. In addition to Dupree, it also has Kyle Hefley, who is known for his work with Halo and Sleeping Dogs, as well as a large portion of the original team from Metroid Prime 3: Echoes. According to Video Games Chronicle, the presumed staff that will be working on what should be one of the biggest titles from Nintendo in the near future – Metroid Prime 4.
This is a very promising sign from Nintendo, especially since Donkey Kong Country Returns and its sequel, Tropical Freeze, were popular titles.
Though Prime 4 is still in the early phases of development and no time table has been announcement, these developments will likely leave many fans hopeful. If Metroid Prime 4 is even half as good as Donkey Kong Country Returns was, then it is sure to be a fantastic game that should please all Metroid fans.
