Jason Segel‘s place in television history was already assured with roles in prominent series like Freaks and Geeks and How I Met Your Mother. Yet, he’s decided to pad his resume and return to the medium that launched his career.
AMC gave a full season pickup back in July 2018 for Dispatches from Elsewhere, a 10-episode mystery anthology series starring and created by Segel. The series is about a group of people who stumble upon a puzzle beyond the veil of ordinary life, leading them to a mystery far deeper than the characters ever imagined.
David Madden, president of original programming for AMC, SundanceTV, and AMC Studios said in the July 2018 statement announcing the project:
Jason Segel serves as series creator, star, executive producer and will even direct one episode. This will be his first TV series since How I Met Your Mother. He’s gone on to be a successful comedic actor and writer with films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Muppets, and Sex Tape.
Dispatches from Elsewhere Trailer
The first Dispatches from Elsewhere trailer opens with Richard E. Grant telling the audience it’s time to begin. And honestly, that’s the way that every trailer should begin.
The first teaser trailer for Dispatches from Elsewhere previously showcased an intriguingly irreverent mystery thriller.
Dispatches from Elsewhere Release Date
Dispatches from Elsewhere will premiere Sunday, March 1 at 10 p.m. ET on AMC. The second episode will air the next day and the series will continue on Mondays through the rest of the season.
Dispatches from Elsewhere Cast
Joining Segel in the main cast marquee for Dispatches from Elsewhere is two-time Best Lead Actress Oscar winner Sally Field (Maniac, The Amazing Spider-Man), along with André Benjamin (American Crime, Four Brothers), and Eve Lindley (Outsiders, Mr. Robot).
Segel, Field, Benjamin, and Lindley will all play every day people caught up in an alternate reality game. Their characters’ names are Peter, Janice, Fredwynne, and Simone. Richard E. Grant (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, A Series of Unfortunate Events) will also appear as the mysterious Octavio.
