Disney’s video streaming service, Disney+, is headed to PlayStation 4 and could make its way to other consoles, as outlined in a presentation they made to investors this week.
It has been confirmed that the PS4 will play host to the service later this year and it’s possible that it will be introduced to the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch as well.
The Switch, in particular, is a gaming masterpiece yet its lack of streaming services remains a sore point made worse by the fact that its screen size makes it perfect for watching movies and TV shows on the go.
YouTube finally got on there last year, but the aforementioned services have not - save Hulu (also Disney owned) - and it appears that Disney is looking to take advantage, as it has implied that talks are being held with both Microsoft and Nintendo. Netflix, though, is reportedly in talks with Nintendo too.
A subscription will hand users all of Disney’s content, National Geographic and Pixar included, and will be the exclusive dwelling place of Disney-branded video. So yes, it does mean that all of the Marvel movies and shows currently on Netflix will move there eventually.
The application will also allow subscribers to download and view movies and shows offline (also perfect for the Switch). It is expected to be available for Sony’s upcoming PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett as well.
With Netflix raising its prices this year, this move - apart from the main Disney+ release - is likely to see many people move over, as it will cost just $6.99 a month. A yearly subscription of $69.99 ($5.83 monthly) will also be an option.
